Lot 272
A 19th century IMPOSING Scottish School oil painting, no artist signature, in our opinion in the style of William Kidd HRSA Scottish | Circa 1790 - 1863 , oil on canvas Scottish Country Scene circa 1830's of an elderly couple sitting by the fireside, frame size 93 x 81cm, visible canvas 66cm x 53.5cm, the gesso frame needs some repair (but most has been saved within a separate bag) This painting would benefit from a light restoration/clean - although looks really nice the way it is! This is supported by a Burns verse in print "John Anderson my Jo, John" By Robert Burns verse is labelled on the top of the frame - also painted in black lettering previous vintage auction house exhibit No? 241AR on the top verso of the frame. There are seven or eight minute chips on the painting commensurate with its age, and craquelure on mostly the outer dark pigment paint scenes of the painting - this in my opinion does not detract from this truly fantastic painting!
