The quality of this print is of the highest standard, please see photographs which actually pick up the cracking in the paint from the original. Condition is excellent. Please note that the full title is `The Fighting Temeraire Tugged to her Last Birth to be Broken-up, 1838` The original painting was produced in 1839. Turner`s elegy for the age of sail and British Oak embodied in seamen, man-of-war and ships of the line, also ushers in the steam age. Sold like other outdated war ships for the price of her timber, the Temeraire is towed to the breakers by a steam tug. Much later, Turner`s picture was described as his first, almost prophetic idea of smoke, soot, iron and steam. Turner called it his `darling` and refused to sell it. He intended it for the National Gallery which sits in Trafalgar Square named after the battle in which the Temeraire had served and to this day the painting remains in the collection of the National Gallery.. H: 76cm W: 101cm D: 1cm. There are two minor chips to the right edge of frame. A stunning piece.

Composed in 1923, whilst on holiday in Antibes, France, The Pipes of Pan is the crowning achievement of Picasso's neoclassical period of the 1920s. The Pipes of Pan is regarded as the most important painting of this period, not only because of its theme, but also because it draws upon classical interpretations of art in a new and modern style. This monumental painting depicts a mythological scene, set in the Mediterranean, in which two classical figures stare out towards a lost Arcadia, Pans homeland. The figures are heavy, sculptural and contemplative. In the painting Picasso transforms Pan, the ancient Greek god of shepherds and flocks who has the hind legs and horns of a goat, into a young boy. Picasso's Pan reveals none of the laziness or lustiness of the original Greek god. Pan then cut the reeds and fashioned them into the first musical pipes.
