A superb and poignant WW1 group of medals, death plaque and ephemera relating to a Scottish ARGYLL & SUTHERLAND HIGHLANDERS Private killed in action 1918. Medals correctly named to Private William Towers S-14913 and matches the Dead Man's Penny and all supporting documentation. William was from Elderslie, Paisley, was killed 17th April 1918 and is commemorated on Tyne Cot memorial. The group includes both medals correctly inscribed, his A&SH Glengarry badge shown in the photos, the Memorial Plaque in original cardboard holder with accompanying Buckingham Palace letter, A cabinet photo of William and a portrait photo that was enclosed with the plaque, A memorial roll issued by Paisley councillors, a 1917 letter from William in France to his mother with enclosed silk hanky and silk postcard, the dreaded Army Form B104 notifying his family that he had been killed in action and letters from the War Office and Grave Commission relating to the location of his body. A superb collection similar to one so many families would have experienced, likely put away in a drawer in grief and only recently come to light, these have been consigned directly from descendants of William.

A stunning silver plated EAGLE INKWELL by JAMES DEAKIN & SONS Sheffield. Superbly well modelled figure of an Eagle sitting spread wing on rocks. Fully stamped underneath with Deakin marks. In excellent uncleaned condition, the inkwell pot is missing but would be easily replaced. Stands 20cm high approx. An attractive display model in its own right.
