Two leatherbound volumes printed in 1713 of Opera et fragmenta veterum poetarum Latinorum profanorum & ecclesiasticorum duobus voluminibus comprehensa (The works and fragments of the early Latin poets, secular and ecclesiastical, comprised in two volumes) by MICHEL METTAIRE. These 2 volumes are showing signs of their age with scuff marks to the leather of the covers, yellowing of the pages and some very slight water damage to one volume. To Which is Added an Essay Upon the Advantages to Be Derived from New Colonies in the Existing Circumstances) published in London by W Spilsbury in 1805. Some foxing to endpages, damage to spine, a note that Jane Austen was still alive on the frontispiece, all pages intact. A fascinating work

VELLEII Paterculi Historiae Romanae Quae Supersunt published in London by Jacobi Tonson and Johannis Watts 1713 (Detached front) C. Suetonii Tranquilli XII Caesares es Optima Atque Accuratissima Francisci Oudendorpii editione published in Edinburgh by A Donaldson and J Reid in 1761, and also P Terentii Comoedie ad Fidem Optimorum Codicum printed in Edinburgh by Johannis Bell in 1775 (condition poor - front cover missing and early pages separated from spine)

Volumes 1 -25 of the 1891 centenary edition of THE WAVERLEY NOVELS by Sir Walter Scott, plus 2 volumes of The Poetical Works, 2 volumes of Tales of a Grandfather. The books are all hardback with leather spines with gilt decoration and marbled covers. Most show some signs of foxing and all have been covered (without adhesive) in jute or velveteen which has protected the covers through the decades
