A limited edition print by PIET MONDRIAN (1872-1944) titled "Composition II in red, blue and yellow, 1930" This actual print was printed in London and is one from the published edition which was strictly limited to 85 copies Worldwide (numbered in the publishers frank). It will be supplied with a replacement valuation for £1800 (free of charge). It will be accompanied with a certificate of authenticity which verifies this is number of the edition. It has also signed by the Master Printer. It has been printed to the highest standard with lightfast inks onto acid-free calcium carbonate-buffered stock, mould-made from 100% cotton. It has been professionally mounted and framed. Mondrian was born in Holland in 1872 and was determined to become a painter from a young age. He qualified with a teaching degree in 1892, but enrolled for painting lessons, before moving to Amsterdam and registering at the Rijksacademie. Mondrian became a member of the art society Kunstliefde "Art Lovers" in Utrecht, where his first paintings were exhibited in 1893. He experimented with many different styles including naturalistic, impressionist and painting many landscapes of his native country. In 1911 he moved to Paris and the influence of Cubism, as evidenced by Picasso and Braque, started to appear almost immediately in his work. He spent the duration of the First World War back in Holland and continued his journey towards abstraction. After the War had finished Mondrian returned to France. He then moved to London in 1938 but relocated to New York just two years later in 1940, where he remained until his death. Mondrian is well known for his contribution to the development of modern abstract art. He strove to portray an extreme formal purity through his combination of simplistic straight lines and bold primary colours. The Image: Mondrian spent the period 1914-1918 (World War I) back at his home in Holland and during this time, he decided to work on an abstract art form which was later classified as Neoplastic style. This work was depicted by lighter colours, simplified colour selection and forms that were balanced in their composition. This work is a result of Mondrian joining the abstraction-creation line which was open to new styles, new techniques and at this time Mondrian began to be fascinated with the idea of the line and dismantling the very definition of painting. He argued that drawing and draughtsmanship which were exemplified in the line, had always lain at the heart of painting from the Renaissance artists to the Impressionists to the Modernists and no one had ever thought to challenge that.. A limited edition print by PABLO PICASSO (one of only 50 worldwide) title: Mans Head; Tete D'Homme, 1969, Supplied with certificate (signed by the Master Printer). Bespoke special mount and professionally framed, image approx 19x25cm. Excellent condition. Please note: supplied with replacement valuation certificate for £1790 (free of charge). Notes on the image: Tete D'Homme is a remarkable example of Picasso's mature style; brimming with painterly verve and stylish invention. Picasso's astonishing capacity for handling paint is wonderfully present in Tete D'Homme. Lustrous colours cover the centre of the canvas endowing the figure with a startlingly vivid presence. Throughout his oeuvre, Picasso's images of the male figure embody masculine power, and are rendered with a bravuric intensity "I have less and less time and I have more and more to say" commented Picasso in his last decade, and the freedom and spontaneity of his mature work, together with the recourse to archetypal figures and symbols is visual evidence of this. The seemingly limitless energy that characterizes so much of his work is extant in this final burst of creativity, as well as a conscious decision to allow himself total liberty with both style and subject matter. Having gone through so many phases of stylistic and technical experimentation, Picasso now pared down his style in order to paint monumental works in quick, spontaneous brush strokes. Rather than ponder the details of human anatomy and perspective, the artist isolated those elements of his subject that fascinated and preoccupied him, and depicted them with an extraordinary sense of wit entirely of his own.. This limited edition print titled "Nympheas, 1906" by CLAUDE MONET has been limited to only 95 pieces worldwide. It has been professionally mounted and framed to a very high standard. Supplied with a certificate of authenticity, signed by the Master Printer. Note: also supplied with a replacement valuation for £1800 along with biographical details on the artist. (Free of charge). Condition is excellent. Although the garden was a favoured subject for many of the Impressionists, no artist rivalled Monet in his dedication to the theme. Monet and his family moved to Giverny in April 1883. On his arrival there, Monet rented a large house on two acres of land, and subsequently bought it when it came up for sale in 1890. Early in 1893 Monet acquired an adjacent plot of land and by autumn he had converted nearly one thousand square metres into a lavish lily pond, spanned by a wooden footbridge and surrounded by an artful arrangement of flowers, trees and bushes. Monet did not begin work on his water-lily series immediately, however. It was not until 1904, following the enormously successful exhibition of his paintings from London, that Monet began to focus on the surface of the lily-pond as a subject, and this would almost remain his exclusive subject for the duration of his career. He completed more than sixty views of the pond between 1905 and 1908, repeatedly postponing the opening of the Nympheas exhibition at Durand-Ruel. When the show finally opened in May 1909, it was an unqualified success.. H: 107cm W: 123cm D: 4cm

A limited edition print by PABLO PICASSO titled "Femme Ecrivant which has been professionally framed in an expensive hand made frame and Art mounted. Supplied with signed certificate of authenticity (signed by the Master Printer) and numbered in the embossed stamp, one of only 91 published Worldwide. Note: supplied with a replacement valuation certificate for £1800 along with biographical details on the artist (free of charge). During the years 1927 until 1935, Picasso was besotted by Marie Therese. For him, she had a very arresting face with a Grecian profile and he adored her blonde hair, so she became not only his muse but a great model. During this period, Picasso had an amazing creative explosion of work, due to her youthful innocence, undying devotion and great vitality and his work became an expression of his love and worship for her. The painting was created at a picturesque chateau in a small Normandy village which Picasso had purchased in 1930 and there Marie-Therese spent the week whilst Picassos wife Olga was only there at the weekends. Pablo Picasso was undoubtedly the most influential artist of the twentieth century and perhaps the greatest artist of all time. During his lifetime, his personality dominated the development of visual arts and he provided the inspiration or most of the enormous and revolutionary changes which took place. Picasso was born in Spain in 1881 and began to paint precociously at the age of seven under his father's tutelage. He studied at the Barcelona School of Fine Arts and by the turn of the century he was shuttling between Barcelona and Paris establishing his reputation. He is perhaps best known for co-founding the "Cubist" movement but his work embraced and inspired an enormous variety of styles and techniques, ranging from painting and sculpture to etching and lino-cutting. Picasso was married twice and had four children by three women; he also maintained a number of mistresses, some of whom played a significant role in the development of his work. He died in April 1973, unquestionably the most significant name in twentieth century art.. H: 85cm W: 76cm D: 6cm

An original watercolour by the English artist JOHN CHISNALL. Title "St. Paul's". This very fine original painting has been professionally mounted, ready to be framed and is in excellent condition. John Chisnall was born in Carshalton, Surrey in 1943 where he spent the first twenty years of his life. He had a very successful career in the public sector, managing the design and construction of a wide range of buildings and civil engineering structures for the government estate. The professional experience gained in this field has given him extensive knowledge of many of the subjects he now explores in his paintings. He developed his interest in painting and drawing in parallel with his primary career until, gradually, these activities gained more importance and in 1992 he left public service in order to spend more time painting. John Chisnall has painted in various media throughout his life and now works mainly in watercolour, finding this medium well suited to catching both the atmosphere and the detail of a place. Largely self taught, although he did spend three years at Sutton School of Art studying life drawing, his paintings are direct celebrations of visual pleasures and ignore the darker sides of modern life. Exhibiting extensively in galleries throughout the UK, he has had six one-man shows in the last 15 years and has illustrated several books on local villages and parishes in Surrey. His pictures are held in collections as far-a-field as the USA and Australia. He is also a regular cartoonist with several magazines.. H: 72cm W: 84cm D: 1cm

A rare limited edition of the 1923 PABLO PICASSO painting "The Pipes of Pan" was published as a numbered edition of only 60 worldwide plus 2 "Master Printers Proofs" of which this is number 2. Complete with certificate (signed by the Master Printer) Framed and mounted and supplied with a replacement valuation for £1800 (free of charge) along with biographical details on the subject and artist. Composed in 1923, whilst on holiday in Antibes, France, The Pipes of Pan is the crowning achievement of Picasso's neoclassical period of the 1920s. The Pipes of Pan is regarded as the most important painting of this period, not only because of its theme, but also because it draws upon classical interpretations of art in a new and modern style. This monumental painting depicts a mythological scene, set in the Mediterranean, in which two classical figures stare out towards a lost Arcadia, Pans homeland. The figures are heavy, sculptural and contemplative. In the painting Picasso transforms Pan, the ancient Greek god of shepherds and flocks who has the hind legs and horns of a goat, into a young boy. Picasso's Pan reveals none of the laziness or lustiness of the original Greek god. The origins of Pans pipes lie in the ancient Greek tale of Syrinx, who was pursued by the amorous Pan and chased into a river, whereby she turned into a hollow reed. Pan then cut the reeds and fashioned them into the first musical pipes. Throughout Picasso's many periods of transition, he would often refer to various mythological figures, one of the most famous being the Minotaur. Yet Picasso was not primarily concerned with the old myths but rather by their transformation into modern 20th century art.. H: 97cm W: 82cm D: 4cm

A striking original painting on canvas by MIRELLA BITETTI of a girl posing on bed. Canvas on boxed stretcher ready to hang. Signed on the reverse by the artist. This lot is supplied with a replacement valuation for £1600 (free of charge). Mirella Bitetti was born in 1963 and was largely inspired by the 1980s. The 1980s were an era of growing global capitalism, political upheaval, worldwide mass media, wealth discrepancies and distinctive music and fashion, characterised by hip hop and electronic pop music. This had a heavy impact on the generation of artists growing up during this time. The fall of the Berlin Wall at the end of the 1980s signified the end of the Cold War, yet the era was also distinguished by the African Famine. During this time prominent art movements included Neo Geo, The Pictures Generation and Neo-Expressionism, which took a strong hold in Germany, France and Italy. Artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Jorg Immendorf, Enzo Cucchi, Francesco Clemente and Julian Schnabel were key artists working during this period, alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf, who established the street art and graffiti movements, which quickly gained recognition.. Professionally framed to a high standard in a bespoke frame and art mounted. Note: supplied with replacement valuation certificate for £1800 along with biographical details on the artist (free of charge). Condition is excellent. This work was produced by the artist during his Bauhaus period in Germany when he taught basic design and advanced colour theory and where he also conducted painting classes. His examination of the effects of forces on straight lines led to his contrasting tones on curved and angled lines and you might describe this work as a geometric abstraction with the circle, the half circle, the curves and the straight lines. Kandinsky was also influenced by Gestalt psychological research which had an influence on him in addition to his colour theory. The Gestalt effect is the capability of the brain to generate complete forms, particularly about the visual recognition of global figures instead of just collections of more straightforward and separate elements such as points, lines and curves.. An original framed mixed media painting on canvas by the late ALEX JAWDOKIMOV (1937-2019). Note: supplied with a replacement valuation for £2400 along with biographical details on the artist (free of charge) Born in Smolensk, Russia, Alex Jawdokimov has led a remarkable life. He was brought up on a kolhoz (collective farm), but spent many of his childhood years in various concentration camps across Europe. He came to England in 1950 by way of Germany with his mother, who was a World War II refugee. He speaks Russian, German and English and became a naturalised British subject five years after arriving in the country. He was a student at the Somerset College of Art, Taunton. In 1956 Alex Jawdokimov spent a brief spell in Canada, learning to fly with the RAF. He then settled in London in 1958 and formed a Russian Cossack Dance Company (his mother had been a professional dancer in Russia) which toured Britain. He also began to act, mostly in minor roles for television. Film parts then followed and he can count amongst his credits films including "The Tamarind Seed" and "The Eagle Has Landed". Despite his love of acting, Alex Jawdokimov's interest was still principally in painting and he exhibited alongside hundreds of other artists every weekend on the Hyde Park Railings in the Bayswater Road. He then worked in an advertising agency, afterwards becoming a freelance artist and illustrator, but he soon tired of the routine and commercial aspect of the work and began to devote more and more of his attention to his own style and methods of painting. Film locations offered wonderful opportunities for on-the-spot sketching and the recording of various landscapes. As a result, Jawdokimov has painted many different areas of the British Isles and the Continent. He lived in North London with his family and his love of the city is exemplified in his many pieces of artwork depicting the famous landmarks and characters of the city where he had chosen to settle. A framed original painting on canvas by MIRELLA BITETTI titled Visione Contraria Supplied with an replacement valuation certificate for £1600 (free of charge). An original painting on canvas by the late ALEX JAWDOKIMOV (1937-2019). Note: supplied with a replacement valuation for £1500 along with biographical details on the artist (free of charge). Artist Biography: Born in Smolensk, Russia, Alex Jawdokimov has led a remarkable life. Artist died in 2019.. H: 35cm W: 100cm D: 2cm

A very finely executed original watercolour by the English artist JOHN CHISNALL. Title "Beach Steps St. Ives" mounted in hand wash lined mount. Artist Biography. John Chisnall was born in Carshalton, Surrey in 1943 where he spent the first twenty years of his life. He had a very successful career in the public sector, managing the design and construction of as wide range of buildings and civil engineering structures for the government estate. The professional experience gained in this field has given him extensive knowledge of many of the subjects he now explores in his paintings. He developed his interest in painting and drawing in parallel with his primary career until, gradually, these activities gained more importance and in 1992 he left public service in order to spend more time painting. He now paints full time, working from his studio in Coulsdon, Surrey. His pictures are held in collections as far afield as the USA and Australia. He is also a regular cartoonist with several magazines. Hand washlined mount. H: 58cm W: 73cm D: 1cm

A rare framed limited edition by Pablo Picasso titled "Still Life with Guitar, 1922". This piece is one of only 75 published worldwide. The quality of this print is superb and in excellent condition. It is beautifully framed in an expensive hand made frame with art mount. Complete with a certificate of authenticity signed by the "Master Printer". It will be supplied with an replacement valuation certificate for £2000 (free of charge). Each print in this edition has been hand sorted and fully inspected by the Master Printer. This high quality edition was published on acid-free calcium carbonate-buffered stock paper, mould-made made from 100% cotton and printed with light fast inks. Picasso did not like musical instruments particularly, and nor did he play one. Yet despite this distaste, instruments, and in particular the guitar which became a favourite cipher, are among his most regular subjects. By the beginning of the 20th century the apparently faithful recording Jens of photography made realist painting feel redundant to many artists. Searching for a new methodology Picasso and Georges Braque experimented with a means of translating what they saw into a unique and personal visual language. They combined what became the Cubist movement with a shift away from the usual subjects of traditional Salon paintings such as landscapes and elevated portraiture to simple still life's redolent of daily life. By restricting the eye to a group of objects, Picasso and Braque embarked on a tightly focused dialogue together. These still lifes, with flourishes of words and newsprint and often reusing objects such as: a stringed instrument, a glass, or a spoon, were fresh on Picasso's mind when, he moved beyond the Neoclassicism of the post-war 'rappel a l'ordre' and began to reinvent his Cubist style. As he returned repeatedly to the guitar as a subject, certain elements shift and start to take on a life of their own. This painting gives a glimpse of the next phase of Picasso's ever-changing genius, with the composition presenting an inherent sense of playfulness in their manipulation of the object. This notion was explored increasingly in the mid 1920s and later as the artist began to explore surrealism more intently, and evolved the extraordinary sequence of near metamorphic bathers.
