George V INDIA GENERAL SERVICE Medal to Pte. C.S.Squibb 2nd Oxford & Bucks, with Burma 1930-32 Bar and original ribbon. Comes with a postcard photo of Charles and colleague. Also with copies of service records, death certificate etc. A nice medal with good research. Charles ‘Sprout’ Squibb stated he was born in Wooburn Green, near Marlow in Buckinghamshire when he enlisted in the British Army at Oxford on 7th January 1924. He was to serve 7 years with the 2nd Battalion Ox & Bucks LI and 5 years in the Army Reserve. He had a Fresh Complexion, Brown hair and Grey eyes and was 5 feet 5 inches tall. His stated next of kin in his service record was his Father, Richard Squibb who lived at Bourne End, Buckinghamshire. Charles Squibb was posted to the Depot of the 1st Battalion Ox & Bucks on 10th January, and was trained as a rifleman in England till 1st October 1925 serving 1 year and 268 days. Charles was granted his 1st Good Conduct Pay on 7th January 1926 and then his 2nd Good Conduct pay award on 6th January 1929. He was mentioned in the Regimental Defaulters book 14 times. Charles S Squibb was posted to serve overseas in India with the 2nd Battalion Ox & Bucks on 2nd October 1925, arriving on 10th November 1925. Charles Squibb served in India, and then Burma for 5 years and 150 days with active war service during the Burmese Rebellion of 1930-32. Private Charles Prout Squibb was discharged invalid and was not transferred to the Army Reserve on 14th March 1931. His address on discharge was given as Wyebridge, Bourne End, Buckinghamshire. He was awarded a pension and a gratuity of £14. He was in possession of a 3rd Class Education Certificate awarded on 27/9/1926. Charles Squibb’s total Army Service was 7 years and 67 days. Under his Medals and Decorations Column was stamped in blue ink “ IGS Burma 1930-32 “. His former station was noted as Maymyo, Burma. Charles Prout Squibb died on 4th December 1962 , aged 57 years old on the highway in Hedsor Road, Upper Bourne End, Wooburn. His occupation was as an Agricultural Worker living at Upper Bourne End, Wooburn near Wycombe.
