Lot 375
A 19th century IMPOSING Scottish School oil painting, no artist signature, in our opinion in the style of William Kidd HRSA Scottish | Circa 1790 - 1863 , oil on canvas Scottish Country Scene circa 1830's of an elderly couple sitting by the fireside, frame size 93 x 81cm, visible canvas 66cm x 53.5cm, the gesso frame needs some repair (but most has been saved within a separate bag) This painting would benefit from a light restoration/clean - although looks really nice the way it is! This is supported by a Burns verse in print "John Anderson my Jo, John" By Robert Burns verse is labelled on the top of the frame - also painted in black lettering previous vintage auction house exhibit No? 241AR on the top verso of the frame. There are seven or eight minute chips on the painting commensurate with its age, and craquelure on mostly the outer dark pigment paint scenes of the painting - this in my opinion does not detract from this truly fantastic painting!

Cost new £1465.00 Dimensions 76" x 55" Additional Info This carpet is knotted in the province of Fars in southwest of Iran, with the city of Shiraz as the capital province. The carpet was originally knotted by nomads that lived in the area, but nowadays most of them are resident in smaller villages in the province. The pattern in the carpet is typical for nomads with motifs of simple geometric figures and often with one or more rhombs in the center. The bottom colour is often red and the motifs in different blue nuances. There are also stilized flowers and bird motifs. The carpets are considered to be rustic and of good quality.

Cost new £1225.00 Dimensions 70" x 46" Lovely condition Additional Info As with numerous other nomadic tribes, the Qashqai Rugs and Qashqai carpets are woven by women. Qashqai rugs have a woollen pile, with a woollen warp and weft, and are woven on a horizontal loom pegged out on the floor. The weft thread is usually distinctive in that it is usually a shade of red. Although the rugs and carpets of the Qashqai are similar in style to those of Shiraz, the Qashqai product is of a higher quality.
