Lot 492
PEEBLES MOTOR CO - Extremely Rare Doxa Goliath Oversize Pocket watch (ticking away quite happily) in original velvet lined car dash mount. The epitome of 1920s Art Deco style. In superb working condition the face carries the name ''Peebles Motor Co. Ltd. Edinburgh''. This Business originally started in Peebles in the Scottish Borders in the early years of the century but by this point was located in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh. The mount would have graced the dashboard of an upmarket motor car and once parked up the fascia simply unscrews allowing the watch to be quickly removed and taken away with the driver. Bottom fitting for ease of winding the watch. The whole has been sympathetically mounted on a stand of burr walnet representative of an upmarket dashboard. A rare item made even more desirable by the inclusion of the garage name. As good an example as you are ever likely to find - dimensions of watch 6.35cm diameter approx
