An antique MILK CAN. A super litttle piece of YORKSHIRE history by GOWLAND & YOUNG Ironmongers of RIPON. The nameplate on the back is Capt. Schofield of Riseley Hall. The can stands 40cm tall and has lovely original green paint with wooden handle and original cap. I don't imagine the good Captain put this out every night, surely the maid was more hands on. The Schofields of Riseley Hall had department stores based in Leeds and throughout Yorkshire. During WWII Riseley Hall was the base for Major General Percy Hobarts of HOBARTS FUNNIES legend, the weird and wonderful contraptions used in the D Day Landings, maybe Percy had the Milk for his tea delivered in this can?

The Fisherrow Brewery in Musselburgh existed up until 1939. The mirror has been a focal point in a very upmarket Ayrshire Hotel for many years and has been lovingly looked after and hung away from direct sunlight. The colours are truly stunning and the etching bright. The plate is clean and undamaged and the frame original. Rectangular paper label on the rear from Thomas J Ford of Greenside Place Edinburgh mirror framers. A truly stunning and historical piece that would be the focal point of any Breweriana collection or indeed would have a further life in hospitality industry. A rare opportunity !
